Keep dog obedience training sessions at a reasonable length so that you can maintain your dog's attention. Dogs will learn more when sessions are shorter than from longer ones. When the dog has learned several useful commands on the continuous reward schedule, the schedule should be changed to less frequent rewards.
Always end training on a positive note. Be sure to get your dog to respond to a command you are sure he or she will obey. Then reward your dog for a job well done and issue a finish command such as “free” or “relax.” Avoid common words such as “okay.” Following a training session, both owner and dog should be left with positive feelings of success.
